Amrita Sinha

An Amateur Culinarian

About me

I was born in Ranchi, India and lived in the heart of the city which is always buzzing with business activities and obviously with easy availability of all kinds of food. In addition to that I have been really fortunate to be pampered by my greatest cook - my mom. However these privileges didn’t influence my appreciation for cooking as I never expected myself to be cooking regularly or to experiment with cooking.

I moved to the UK during 2008, lived in London and nearby cities before settling in Kent. After moving to the UK I dedicated my time raising my son and helping my husband. London being a truly international city is a great place for any kind of food ranging from sushi to Mexican. Obviously no one can eat outside food regularly even if it's having great taste.

So I started cooking regularly for my family and realised that I have to cook food with three different flavours as all three of us have different taste buds and there is very little common ground when it comes to food plates. This led to commencement of my experimentation of how to have different foods with one major condition. The major condition is that I will not spend too much time in the kitchen. So it’s like I will cook good food with multiple variants without spending too much money and also without spending too much time, still it should tick all boxes of good food criteria's.

Gradually I learnt the function of spices, its impact on taste, cooking time and ultimately food which can change the mood. During get-togethers when friends started asking about recipes of my food, it sounded quite surprising to me as I just cook with some inbuilt process of using things available in the kitchen.

Now I have started advising friends and relatives who are happy with my unstructured and informal way of cooking delicious food with everyday stuff.

I am still an amateur culinarian and I would like to thank my family who have been my food testers and appreciators. Although many times they do not notice some intricate spice or flavour changes but I get my feedback by watching them licking their fingers.

Besides cooking I love reading, occasional binge watching, appreciate gardening, volunteering for schools and community.

If anyone needs my help related to cooking or if you have any questions or comments regarding food snaps in the Gallery, then don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
